Best Brews of the Columbia Valley

November 21, 2018

Whether You’re Looking for Caffeinated Brews or Brew-Brews, There’s Something to Sip for You in the Columbia Valley

There’s plenty brewing in the Columbia Valley whether you like your drink warm, stirred or frosted.

If your morning coffee is as critical as oxygen, head to Invermere’s Kicking Horse Coffee. Named Best Workplace in Canada the person brewing up the organic, fair-trade java is likely to have a smile for you along with your caffeine. Linger in the Café and soak up the valley vibe until you’re ready to try some of the other drinks brewed in the shadows of the Purcells.

Arrowhead Brewing Company - Invermere, BC

If you like your beer with a side of humour you’ll enjoy tasting the ales on tap at the valley’s only artisan beer maker – Arrowhead Brewery Company. With names like “I’ve Been Thinking About Getting the Band Back Together”or “I’m so Freaking Hoppy”, owner Shawn Tagart’s sense of fun shines through the beer fizz. Started in 2012, Arrowhead offers six permanent ales and three to five seasonal tastes (“Let’s Talk About the Weather” or “Punkinferno” this fall). Brewed with mountain spring water and natural ingredients, you can taste the mountains in each glass. Check out Arrowhead’s Facebook page for live music dates in the tap room and a chance to grow your taste for craft beer.

Tanton Bay Spirits

Further down the road is the valley’s only distillery. Taynton Bay Spirits located below The Station Neighbourhood Pub brews up vodka, gin and infused cocktails. Winner of three awards at the Canadian Artisan Spirit Award after their first year, Taynton Bay uses wheat grown in the valley and offers tastings only a few steps from Kinsmen Beach. With Ginger Matcha Tea Infused Cocktail or Raspberry Vodka on offer, you can feel virtuous about the healthy ingredients while having fun!
