Fall is a Perfect Blend of Relaxation, Family and Activity in the Columbia Valley
Playing in the Columbia Valley lets you feel the rhythm of the seasons and October is the perfect month to reflect on the best parts of your life.
As fall colours dim and plants prepare for a winter siesta, Canadians give thanks for the bounty the earth provides. In the Columbia Valley there are several places offering Thanksgiving feasts so you can share your gratitude with family and friends without dirty dishes.
Copper Point Resort offers a turkey buffet on Thanksgiving Weekend that will delight your palate while you unwind from your daily responsibilities.
Fairmont Hot Springs is also cooking up a bird on Thanksgiving weekend and lots of outdoor activities. You can give thanks for a relaxing soak in the mineral pools before strolling to the Antlers at the lodge restaurant for turkey and trimmings.
To assuage any guilt over feasting, squeeze in a round of golf before the season ends. When golfing the Fairmont Riverside course be sure to keep your eyes open for the bright-red migrating salmon as they battle their way up river to spawn and die, and give thanks your life isn’t that hard.
If your gratitude is best expressed outside take a stroll on one of the valley’s trails before snow returns. Sinclair Creek pathway near the village of Radium Hot Springs offers a short trail near the creek. The smell of damp leaves, some still clinging to trees, others squishing underfoot makes a perfect backdrop for fall reflections.
To learn more about the traditional knowledge of the valley’s earliest residents, Shuswap elder Verna Stevens will show how native plants in the valley can be brewed into traditional tea October 13. Sipping a cuppa might be the perfect way to pause and offer thanks for time to unwind.
Regardless where your fall wanderings lead you, feel grateful for the choices that have led you to the Columbia Valley with the time to enjoy it.
