In 2014, Lake Windermere Whiteway was named the World's Longest Skating Trail by Guinness World Records!
Join history and go for a skate on one of four loops. Find more information and ice conditions via Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club. Enjoy the sprawling 30km trail network weaving along Lake Windermere. Take in unbeatable views of both the Purcell and Rocky Mountains spanning the shores of the lake while skating as far as you'd like! When conditions allow, winter outdoor adventurers can enjoy a groomed Nordic ski track and skate ski path alongside the cleared skating path.
Directions: From Downtown Invermere, continue on 7th Avenue to Kinsmen Beach. Remember to purchase your day or annual pass to enjoy the trails.
Skate the multi-sport Lake Lillian Whiteway and enjoy beautiful views of the small mountain lake and Purcell Mountains.
The lovely Lake Lillian is tucked away just beyond the town of Invermere, on the way to Panorama Mountain Resort. The Lake Lillian Whiteway is a 3km trail maintained by the Toby Creek Nordic. When conditions allow, winter outdoor adventurers can enjoy a groomed Nordic ski track and skate ski path alongside the cleared skating path.
Directions: From the traffic lights on Highway 93/95 at the Invermere junction, turn west on Athalmer Road towards Invermere. After you cross the railway tracks overpass, turn right onto Panorama Drive/Toby Creek Road. Follow the road for approximately 7 km. Turn right into the Lake Lillian Recreation Site parking area. Remember to purchase your day or annual pass to enjoy the trails.
Skate in Radium's outdoor rink, located in the heart of the village at Legend’s Field.
Skate by day with mountain views or in the night with floodlights to light your way. Amenities include public washrooms, a picnic area, and benches for strapping on your skates. Plan to spend time enjoying Legend's Field, bring some firewood and enjoy the nearby firepits with smores!
Directions: From the traffic lights in Invermere on Highway 93/95, turn north and travel towards Radium Hot Springs for approximately 13km, turning left onto Stanley St in the Village of Radium Hot Springs. The skating rink and parking area is located on your right adjacent to the Radium Hot Springs Centre.
The community of Edgewater, less than 10 minutes north of Radium, maintains a skating rink in the centre of town.
Frank’s Rink, found at the corner of Purcell Avenue and Vermillion Street in Edgewater, BC, is known not only as a hub for hockey, shinny, skating and more, but also as a lasting reminder of one man’s love for his community. The rink is a monument to Frank Schnider, who made maintaining the rink his passion for five years, from the time he retired at age 65 until he passed away at age 70 in 2005.
Franks Rink has maintained a dedicated group of volunteers within the Edgewater Rec Society.
Directions: Travel North on Highway 95 from Radium Hot Springs to the small town of Edgewater, approximately 11km. Turn left on Columbia Road leading to Edgewater, continuing on Cordillera Ave for approximately 300m before turning right onto Vermillion St.
