It sits approximately 82km (50mi) north of Cranbrook and 165km (102mi) south of Golden. To the east, Calgary, Alberta is located 322km (200mi) away, accessible via Highways 1 and 93.
If you prefer traveling by air, the closest major airport is the Canadian Rockies International Airport in Cranbrook, located approximately 89 kilometers south of Canal Flats. It is a small, regional airport servicing the Kootenay-Rockies area, with flights mainly to and from Calgary, Kelowna, and Vancouver.
