The Kootenay National Park is perfect for hiking and sightseeing in the Canadian Rockies. A hidden gem, you won’t find the crowds of Banff National Park there. But you will find spectacular scenery! Unlike the USA National Parks, the Canadian National Parks allow dogs on leashes but make sure you “scoop your poop” and pack it out with you to dispose of in an animal-safe garbage bin.

Floe Lake

Just outside Fairmont Hot Springs off the Westside Road is The Hoodoos Trail. It’s uphill for most of the way, but the viewpoint at the top makes it all worthwhile! Enjoy stunning views of the Columbia River, Dutch Creek River, and Columbia Lake. To top it off, the rest of the hike is all downhill! In the winter months, warm up with a visit to a local coffee shop or some shopping around Fairmont Hot Springs. Dogs must be on leash.
